Birds & Words

Birds_And_Words_Front.jpg

This book began as simply a collection of bird images inspired by their collective nouns. But these words are only suggestions, sometimes revealing just one aspect of a bird’s being. There is an entire enchanting world of birds, their feathers, nests, and eggs.

Birds are often viewed as messengers from the spirit world, and angels have long been depicted with feathered wings. Birds brighten our days with their cheerful and otherworldly songs, their varied colours and visual beauty, their fascinating, sometimes entertaining, behaviour, and their intelligence.

They are an integral and necessary part of the natural world, closely connected to plants and trees, seeds and flowers, worms and grubs, and all the countless forms of life the soil offers as nourishment to them.

By watching and learning about birds, we ourselves become more aware and more connected to the world of nature. This world is both calming and healing, a blessing to those who long for the gentler melodies of the past.

“Hope is the thing with feathers

That perches in the soul”

– Emily Dickinson
